Lifan LF250-B Secound (rear) Exhaust Pipe just slightly warm?
Hello, I bought a 2009 Lifan LF250-B 250cc last week. I also went to the mechanic, he drove around and said that everything seemed ok with the engine. However, yesterday I noticed that the front exhaust pipe was hot and the rear one was only slightly warm. I've read that some Virago machines only have the second exhaust faked, that could also be the case here, the motorcycle rides well and also pulls the gas well. Maybe someone has the same motorcycle and can confirm my suspicion that the second one is only there visually and has no function?

That engine is a genuine V-twin, so that rear exhaust pipe should be getting as hot as the front. If it is fake, take the shields/covers off and see if that rear pipe T's into the front. That said, the pipe close to the head should still get hot, even if one of the two mufflers is a fake, which leaves me to think you have a rear jug with low compression or weak spark that is blowing out under load.

I'll check it again with the mechanic next week because I have to replace the brakes anyway. I thought it was fake because this is a Yamaha clone and this very Yamaha has a fake second exhaust. I only paid 1000 euros for the motorcycle, which is from 2009, so I thought that a lot had to be done. I just hope my engine isn't broken. He has run 19000km. I'll will also check the rear head to see if it's getting hot. I'll get in touch again then.

You can see it here in this picture clear as day under the bike.

I'm at work right now and can't take a photo, but I have this one from last week, I see it just below, I think it's the same as the Yamaha, so it's possible that the second one is fake.https://i.ibb.co/hsf4V1H/20240501-122256.jpg

Yep, I do believe I see it too.
Nice looking little bike by the way. For a 2009 it looks well cared for. |
Yes, not bad, especially for the money. Its my first bike. I have a few repairs to do in the next few days, such as brakes and clutch cable. Oil still looks relatively fresh when I look through the small window. I'll probably also replace the air filter, it should just be a sponge.

Yeah, It's fake. I own a 89 Yamaha Route 66, better known as the V Star 250 now. My 2023 Lifan Lycan however uses both mufflers. The engines are clones of the Yamaha V twin 250. They do sell Drag pipes for the Yamaha V Star that will fit you bike. https://www.ebay.com/itm/26423704115...3ABFBM1t7Urupj

What about the realbilty of my Lifan machine? I wanted to do a round trip of 400km at the end of the month, is that recommended?
|
I own two Lifan bikes. Both are good quality bikes. I think they are just as reliable as any other name brand bike. The Lycan is defiantly more updated than even the newer Yamaha V Star 250's. One think you might want to consider is replacing the rear sprocket with a 40 tooth. Even my old Route 66 needed to be swapped out. https://amzn.to/4a9Z1Ek

Okay, I'll do the trip, there are no highways here in Bosnia anyway, so I'll only drive between 60 and 80kmh most of the time.

Bosnia?? Man, that is so cool!

It definitely is. It's my first bike, I got it last week for 1000 euros which is about $1100 dollars. I won't be doing any big tours for the first time. However, I hope to cover 200-300km a day without my Lifan breaking down.
