3 day ride...
just got back from the 2013 DB1K..
I took the Yamaha XT660R this time other than the weight & surspention it went quite well.. the weight was a real prob in some of the more tec sections & one river crossing  .. I totaly drowned it ..filled the cyclinder with water..It hydruliced & would not turn over when I tryed to start it after getting it back up right... plug out pump the water out/ drain the air box , check spark... back togeather it stated first push of the button..:D ... then came the biggy.. 80kph into a ford I diddn't see till way to late..Managed to stay on "just".. but I blow fork seals & flat spoted the front rim.. rear brake caliper dented the muffer , tyre took a peice of the rear guard out... Other than those it was a great few days... I was rideing for about 11 hours a day to cover the 500kms each day... I'm thinking a Suzuki DRZ400 would be a good size bike for this type of rideing... between the XR250 & XT660R & put a Rekluse auto clutch in it.... all great fun.... roll on 2014 DB1K... :P ========================================== These scree slides comeing off the mountains can be 100s of metres across with deep water channels running down them.. some you have to ride up & down as you cross them to find a rideable route though... PS..The bike in the distance with twin head lights is a Suzuki DL650 vee storm.. felt sorry for him as that bike was so far out side its comfort zone & no groung clearance for this stuff took 4 or 5 guys to get it though.... But it did get though.. http://imageshack.us/a/img685/7756/ssa42020.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img545/6818/ssa42027.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img843/7241/ssa42032.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img594/6892/ssa42034.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img705/7062/ssa42033.jpg |
Bummer about the rim and the muffler; at least the plastic shouldn't be too expensive. I agree that a DRZ400 would be ideal.

Sorry about the damage but I shudder to think how bad the bike, and you, could have fared 8O . You didn't even get a flat or damage the engine or get stuck! Good riding and you were blessed by God for sure! :D
I like the DRZ400, and the XR400. That's a good size. They won't have nearly the power of a motocrosser or a high performance Japanese or European enduro but will ride great and last forever. Very manageable size. Thanks for the pics and the post! |
I'm sorry about the damage to your bike, but I'm glad you didn't get stranded. ;) Thanks for posting the great photos and ride report, Pete! :)
