Best Carb for TT with Mods
After staring at the new TT head that's been abandoned on my workbench for probably over a year I decided to find someone to finish what I started. I'm getting the exhaust port matched to my pipe along with it decked 40/1000 of an inch. I have the eBay pipe already so I'll throw that an a iridium plug on. I obviously need to upgrade the stock carb but I'm not sure which to get.
PE30, PWK30 or perhaps PZ30? My understanding is PWK (D slide) is better for high rpm power and PE (round slide) is better for low rpm power. I want to get better top speed so I think PWK is definitely the way to go for my needs. I know PZ have the accelerator pump, which I like the sound of, but is it a D slide or round slide with pump? Also is there anything I need to do to the stock airbox? |
Mikuni/copy carb (Hwbnde) with a 110/115 jet should be ok. I have used PZ30 carbs in the past but people seem to have a lot of issues with them and now they come sealed up for some reason.

Anyone have a link for the proper Nibbi and intake required as well?

If I was going the PZ30 route then I was thinking this one:
https://m.ebay.ca/itm/PZ30-Accelerat...&ul_noapp=true It was recommended by people on here a few years ago and is still available. You think it will be tamper proof even when it comes with a jet kit? I'd still like to know if the slide is round or D shaped. |

Oh... I thought all PZ30s had accelerator pumps. So a PE and PZ are pretty close to the same then or is there any major difference between the two?
Is there a PWK30 or a suitable D shaped slide carb with an accelerator pump? All my mods are strictly to achieve higher top speed as I want to take my TT250 on a long trip this summer with many miles of highway riding. |

I loved the PZ30B on my bike. Makes for much snappier acceleration thanks to the AP. Either the PWK or PE Carb is capable of flowing more than enough air than a CG engine can hope to use. Even with head porting and a cam. The only thing a PWK might offer over the PE is slightly better throttle response. I had my old Hawk to top speeds near 70mph with only an exhaust and the Mikuni clone with 17/45 gearing. It could hold 60mph all day long without pegging the throttle the whole time. |

I too was able to top out around 71-72ish with just the full exhaust, vm26 clone and that same gearing. 60MPH was actually the perfect cruising speed, it was very happy at that speed/rpm in 5th gear. No need to go ballz to the wall with carburetors on these bikes to maintain rural or two-lane highway speeds. I'd rather ride 500 miles at 55-60mph and be happy all day than buzzing at 500rpm before redline and maintaining 70-75 with no room to spare in case I need to pass or avoid something. |
