Name Misspelled On Bill of Sale
So, I have an appointment at the DMV to register my new x22-GT. It is approved in the state of NJ, so I do not anticipate running into any problems.
Slight glitch - on my MCO, my name is correct. On my bill of sale, my last name is spelled incorrectly. Should I anticipate this being an issue, as it has never happened to me before? Or should I just assume they need the bill of sale for the price for taxation purposes? Worst case I can reach out for a corrected one if it will present problems. Thanks for any input. |
I have a suggestion -- ask the folks who know, NJ DMV employees.

Yeah if you show them both documents and your picture ID, they might just let it go. They might make a pen correction, or have you do it, with initials added. Worth trying since it's the simplest fix. I'm sure it's not the first time it's ever happened, so maybe they have a simple process.

Since the BOS is correct, the misspelling on the MCO should be recognized as just a typo. I would try anyway. Your driver's license is the record they will go by, and it matches the BOS. Good luck. I'd say it is worth trying.

Up here that wouldn’t fly ,everything has to be perfect or you got to get it re done .Now ,you say your name is spelled incorrectly ,how bad is it ? If it’s one of those names that can be spelled a few ways (John ,Jon ,etc.) that might be a little easier to get through .Isnt going to hurt to try ,and you might win .

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. They literally added one other letter to my last name. Upon a quick glance, it's easy to miss. I don't think it's a huge deal, but just want to be sure this won't jam me up. It's correct on my MCO, which I think is the bigger deal.
