I know that this is an old post but I have found...

I know that this is an old post but I have found that lowering the front forks about an inch made my Hawk much more stable.
Maybe made the forks stiffer?

I cut the hump out of the base plate from the bottom and then removed the staples and shaved the foam on the hump. Better but still not quite enough so I'm going to contour it some more.

My Hawk is like this as well and I've ridden many bikes over the years that you have to move the bike a little to get them into neutral. Everything from Hondas to Harleys. Not uncommon at all.

To me the finding neutral problem seems to be heat related more that anything. When I work my hawk hard it gets contrary about going into neutral.
Maybe an oil cooler helps with this?
