I'd be curious if the pads couldn't be salvaged for backup in an ultrasonic cleaner with a heavy degreaser solution.

If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, ask your gun buddies.

Is there a large difference in performance between removing the cat and rear baffle, and going to the aftermarket?

It sounds silly, but as much as I hate the tank plastic, I like the muffler...

Wow - maybe I don't understand - singles are like $30 locally, and don't have drill bits. Kits are less than $40 and include drill bits. Maybe Heli-coil is a brand name, but other brands are Chinese...

Hawk. My first stripped threads.

I stripped out the threads in one of the bosses for the cable retention clips on the front fork. It's not that bad, and I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm going to mount a fork stabilizer up there....
