Yeah, everything was cranked up, didn't really help. I did run with the aluminum OEM luggage all the time also. But no heavy mods (burrito tubes with a few light things).

Unless you change the rear shock, or you are a super light person with very little to carry, that will limit your riding and the abuse. It simply can't handle being ridden hard, it's crap.

Sprockets should be done too. Even if they look OK, my experience has been that the next chain will wear faster if you don't do sprockets. I've wasted more money this way than by doing it right.

I can't help on this specific motor as I've never had it apart. However I can say that I've heard a bike with a bad CCT a few times, and that sounds exactly like it.
