If you are taking the temp from the stock sensor, it's at the "out" end of the first radiator, so it's already been cooled some.

1/4 inch is a bit more than 6mm, 5mm is a touch bigger than 3/16 inch, for those curious about the conversion.

Because it works in that way for some folks, they tend to preach that every bike should do it that way also. Do what works for you....
