No. Way too much trouble. But a pound or two isn't important. These are just estimates.

So if you don't elevate the unweighed wheel, does this increase the weight or decrease the weight?

If it is shorted, it will burn up wire(s) and possibly damage the reg/rec and possibly even the stator. I'd get a cheap battery just so it doesn't fry...
