Unusable because the idle has to be set above 2500 to keep it running, it kicks back while starting, runs poorly even at high RPMs.

I agree with Jerryhawk, the stock CDI is best....

I agree with Jerryhawk, the stock CDI is best. The aftermarket "performance" units I've tested had too much advance to the point they were unusable.

Easiest way to identify a CG engine is to look at the left side of the cylinder. You'll see a round metal insert with a slot in it. That is the pivot pin for the cam followers.

Yes, definitely low. Easy engines to work on but I haven't seen a 170cc CG engine so parts may not be a common as for a 200 or 250.

I too have the NGK iridium plugs in my CG...

I too have the NGK iridium plugs in my CG engines. They work just fine. Seems to help my quad engine start better in extreme cold.

Unlike a normal motorcycle engine where you can shift past neutral, in an ATV engine it takes 2 clicks of the gear lever to get from 1st to reverse or reverse to first.
