Sorry about the damage but I shudder to think how bad the bike, and you, could have fared 8O . You didn't even get a flat or damage the engine or get stuck! Good riding and you were blessed by God for sure!
I like the DRZ400, and the XR400. That's a good size. They won't have nearly the power of a motocrosser or a high performance Japanese or European enduro but will ride great and last forever. Very manageable size.
