I haven't see that trick before; thanks for sharing it.
I'm sure it will work. However, I think the shrink tubing will
not provide a very good grip on the handlebars.
I have installed similar heated grips on two of my motorcycles, but I performed the usual procedure, and put the heater elements under the grips.
