Spud, I know this is an old thread, but it is new to me!
How 'bout trying some oven cleaner to remove the paint? My buddy in Moscow had his Honda stolen and when the police recovered it, the thief had painted it black. We put some oven cleaner on it and took that paint off after sitting just a few minutes.
