There is an arrow on the Tap arm that you turn to turn on & off the fuel. If you look at the petcock it has a cup on the top & bottom or it says On & Reserve, they came both ways. One cup has a line at the top that is the On position when the Tap arm arrow is pointed towards it, visa versa for Reserve, (cup is at half), off is the Horizontal position.
I'm not degrading, but the dealer you purchased your bike from should have told you this and it shows it in the owners' manual.
