The bike made the noise before I even touch it and definitely runs better after I gapped the valves. The valves had negative lash, so the bike was losing compression on the compression stroke. Like I said, it runs great with the exception of what sounds like piston slap at around 2500 rpms on up.

That sucks !
One thing about these bikes is nothing isn't really consistent.
Hopefully it isn't a bad wrist pin, but it wouldn't surprise me..
