The speedo is not calibrated for kph. If it was, then everybody would be showing 80mph with an actual speed of 50mph. 1 mile = 1.6kilometers. More than likely, since the odometer and speedometer are geared off of the same cable, to save costs they changed the speedo gear to something that would read remotely accurate, but left the same drive gear that also turns the odometer.

No, instead they are just woefully inaccurate. I have heard of some guys repositioning the needle on the stock cluster so that it reads more accurately. It still wont be perfect, but a little closer.

Honestly, the tach cluster is worth every penny. I love mine, and it is dead on accurate. It also gives the bike a more upscale feel, and it looks awesome at night.
