Mine is the same way when I flipped it around, it is just the way the top of the plastic piece is designed that as you tighten the bolts down it bends in towards the chain.

Dont worry about it mine sits just as close, and I have not had a problem even doing hard trails. the chain will not move sideways off the rear sprocket unless it jumps off completely
