I would go as part of a group. I think I'm getting a little long in the tooth for that kind of adventure as a solo trek anymore. 10 years ago, and I'd already be gone. Now I've got a wife and kid, and a lot going on on this side of the border. It's too much for me to risk for a couple weeks on my own in Mexico. As part of a group ride, even just a bunch of friends that came up with a plan and decided to make the trip, I would absolutely go. No worries about that type of trip at all. It's not even too far from where I'm at now:
