a few ideas

#1 Carbs on these things are one of the first upgrades. There easy to swap out and can really help with start up and overall performance. The original carbs aren't very good.

#2 I've always swapped out chains because the OEM chains weren't very good. Not a must, but if you have the time and money I also re-did the sprocket set up. That's more preference.

#3 Suspension is very stiff and can help your kids control if you upgrade. You can find some good priced gas shocks pretty easy for these.

Those are the first three things I've done. If I could only do one, I'd check to see if they run or if you have carb issues. No carb issues then I'd invest in that chain. Those were the biggest things for me.

As a #4 I'd suggest widening out the back end with wheel spacers. It's a little more cost, but you can find them all over. If I had young kids riding mine, especially if off road, I'd for sure think about #3 and #4 for safety reasons.
