Hello and welcome! I'm a new rider. I rode a DR125 amost 30 years ago, but no adult experience on bikes (and none on roads). I got a Hawk DLX back in March, and I love it! I do have to say, it does ride tall. I'm 6'5'' and feel it's the right height for me. It's a bit slow on the street, part of that is my skills/weight and part is the bike. But I mainly ride off-road, so it works for me. I was with you on the price. I couldn't justify paying 5-6k for a used Japanese bike that I knew I would bang up. I've only laid the Hawk down once so far (while loading into my truck). Overall I feel it's a great bike to learn how to ride and how to wrench. I'm also mechanically inclined, so I enjoy the maintenance that comes a long with the Hawk.
