You are on the right track. The best way(s) to stiffen up the Hawk front fork include a fork brace and internal valve cartridge fork emulators. Oh, and shim the springs if they are too soft for your weight.
Megadan installed the emulators on his Hawk. He documented this here.
These mods won't cost you more than a few hundred bucks. I am sorry I don't have links but someone here will. I went with inverted forks on both my china bikes to avoid all of that. Inverted forks are hardly new technology, and they are available on many Chinese dirt bikes. I really don't know why the Hawk doesn't have them. The Bashan Storm has 'em at $1500 plus shipping, and of course every Templar model has 'em.
