is it off the crank?

the sprag clutch allows the flywheel to free spin unattached to the starter transfer gear when the engine runs...but binds onto it when cranking.

It could be possible the 1 way sprag bearings have binded onto the flywheel if the part has failed...

the sprag attaches to the back of the flywheel with the 3 allen head bolts. The cranking gear goes on the crank first independent of the sprag/flywheel then the sprag inner clutch rides over the cranking gear boss...

Also it can be difficult to remove and install the crank timing key when the sprag and flywheel are combined prior to install...So be mindful of the timing woodruff key

The sprag might have formed a rust bond on the flywheel but other than the 3 allen bolts all there is might be a mild friction fit that could be coaxed off with a plastic/wood mallet.
