OK. I am stumped as well. The isolated leads coming out of the case from the stator should make AC. Have you tested by touching ground with one voltmeter lead (black), and each stator lead (separately) with the red voltmeter lead while spinning the crank? I am not sure if that AC is "floating" on the output wires.

I have never heard that a rotor can go bad, so I am not yet convinced here
