Yes, I expect to backtrack every once in a while. Especially when riding in unfamiliar territory, I budget my riding time accordingly.
The GPS can tell you a road or trail is available; however, it does not tell you if the road is gated.
I had to backtrack in such a manner during my recent ride to Promintory Point, just north of the Great Salt Lake.
