Even if the CDI unit is not causing your current problem, you are wise to have a spare. Among other things, a spare CDI unit greatly facilitates troubleshooting the electrical system. Also, it's only a matter of time before the original CDI unit fails. I am currently using the fifth CDI unit on my Zongshen 200GY-2. The harsh vibration from off road riding accelerates the death of the Chinese CDI units, so I average about 12,000 miles of riding before I need to replace one.
