Personally, I prefer to travel light, so I really like the narrow width of the stock panniers.

I also like the soft luggage options presented by Wolftrax and Threelittlebirdies.

In addition, I like the way the stock panniers, and soft luggage, are protected both frontally and laterally by the stock pannier mounts.
