what a nice coincidence, just yesterday my LED backlight was dead after 4 weeks and 350Km...
I hope you've got more luck with yours.

A solution for your issue with the H4 headlight might be a 35/35W H4 bulb for Bilux-socket, but on the one hand they are very expensive (about 15€) and on the other hand you still don't have a H4 reflector. So don't expect the same result as with a complete H4 headlight, which is the way i would go.
Was your original Taillight equipped with a 21/5W bulb? Then you only save about 4 Watts without braking, but the generator should be able to handle the 45/40W H4 bulbs.
