Agreed. its a wasted effort to try to make the bike a do-all bike as no matter how you gear for top-end, it'll always be uncomfortable.. for true road worthiness, you need a bike that can easily break triple digits if you want to cruise comfortable on the highway and have enough power to get you out of trouble (just dont have too much to get yourself into trouble).. I was ok with the 13/42 for awhile but then wanted some of that oomph back in first gear and the 14/49 is a sweet spot for me, great off-road and then enough torque to carry 6th gear
