zongshen 250 clutch

i have fried the clutch on my zongshen.

Need input as to where to get parts other than e-bay (nothing on there anyway)

There's plenty on eBay. Here's a decent price, and you can have it shipped to Sumas to save some cash; that's what I do: Clutch Assembly

I had a quick look on the Gio site, but they don't seem to stock any right now. The only local shop I can think of is Saga.

ya that's the right assy but I would think that I can rebuild it no?

the oil definitely did not smell right and even a friend said fried clutch smell

there were also lots of small bits of crud in there

also will I have to make my own gasket for this casing? (not like it is a problem)

Sure you can rebuild it, but the entire assembly is likely a better value. You can get a replacement gasket or use a product like Three Bond or Loctite flange sealant.

This is a good time to point to the round cover to the right of the clutch, with three retaining screws and a spring in the middle. That's the cover for the oil pump pickup, and it's likely full of junk. Carefully remove the cover, and then dig out the sludge before putting things back together.

went out and took the clutch apart and cleaned everything.

reverse is on the left and the smooth one on the right is first...well there's your problem. :roll:

there was some caked on stuff in there around the edges of the cover and then the rest spread around here and there.

another reason to crack the engine once a year, give it a good cleaning, change a few worn parts and toss it back together.

Its not like these are all that hard to rebuild too.

I am going to make that part of my normal routine now. So I have to keep a spare set of gaskets, and a few other parts around, that might cost me a whole $50??

picked up the parts and gasket today ...... $40.00 total.

plates are soaking in oil now.

next question ....i have 5 disks and 4 spacers . do they go 4 in the long slots and 1 in the short slots or 3 in the long slots and 2 in the short slots?

from my pic (should have taken a better one) looks like 3 in long and 2 in short.

all back together and working better than ever.

after that was done and a few test rides down the alley....went on to fix a break in the plastics.

drill the holes

cut some mechanics wire

bend into stitches

insert and twist from behind

thats enuff for today.... going riding tomorrow.
