Oil Leak Storm

We got a bleeder!

Took it out for about 10 miles today then found this an hour after riding. Odometer has 63km on it so I wasn’t expecting this needless to say. The highest point I can find oil is around the clutch. Sad.

I also notice around the chain chunks are missing from the guard, like a rock or something slammed the chain into the motor.

That chain guard damage is noteworthy.

Take the front sprocket off (it's a dead easy job) and have a look at the countershaft seal area.

The shifter shaft seal is a common culprit for leaks, and that looks like where the oil is coming from. hard to tell with the pictures, especially being in the sprocket area, which is already going to be dirty and greasy.

Oil leak- I wiped it all down, literally everything I could get to with a rag. No drips today after a short ride. Going to keep an eye on the shiftier seal and see what it does.

Crank case chain guard damage- All the bolts are dead tight on the rear and front sprockets but I did notice the front sprocket does have a wobble to it. Not sure if this is normal or not. Reminds me of a skateboard wheel where you leave the bearings loose enough for just a bit of side to side play to keep from binding them. If it has anything to do with a chain slamming into the case guard or not I don't know.

Thanks as always!!

Had you lubed the chain recently? Sometimes if you give it a good soaking it can resemble an oil drip when the chain heats up and the oil thins and drips off.

Yes, the sprocket is supposed to have a slight wobble to it. It corrects for minor misalignment as the rear wheel articulates. Add up a little wear in the rear hub and rear sprocket over the length of the chain and you can see how the countershaft sprocket can't be rigid.
