There must have been a batch of tanks that were just bad. Two Hawks and 7000 miles between them and I have never had a single tank leak... so far.

Can you tell where the leak is coming from? Is there a crack in the metal or just a bad weld?

If you know somebody with the skill, instead of steel stick/jb weld you could try to clean and evacuate the tank and then have it brazed or soldered over. It will be a much better repair than either epoxy.

Usually bad weld on the pipe stem where the petcock screws in. Yeah I might try to find someone that can braze the thing.
