Was to easy...

The 1980 KL250 rebuild/restore was going well...
then this... this is the first of 4 sections I have to remove...
and the dam metal is only 1mm thick...
Be a real bastard to get it painted... decals on to have it start
to leak a few months down the track..

After you weld in another 1mm piece, have you considered laying another strip over that? I have an old XT350 tank I'm doing that to; it'll have an armored look when I'm done, and hopefully take twice as long to rust through again.

Braze it back together instead of welding it.

I put a 2mm patch on the inside with a 10mm overlap..
weld a long bolt to the patch centre to hold it in place..

I just run the mig around it... I done the welds vertical down
fast weld and keeps the heat down..

all the rust pitted areas I am going to flow body solder over..

Body solder in the US is lead. Is it the same there in NZ?

Yes.. pretty sure it would be the same thing or that close it doesn't really matter..

not very common these days.... wonder where to get it.. A question for Mr Google I think ..

You can generally get body solder in two flavors. The traditional lead based, or the "safer" high tin type that requires a bit more heat.
