Carburetor swap on Qlink 200fx

Has anyone been successful with swapping the CV carb. on a Qlink 200fx with a round slide or even flat slide? If anyone can point me to an existing thread,, that would also be helpful, thanks.

I don't know why anyone would want a CV carb on a bike, but yeah, it can be done...ARH

What is a cv carb and why no good for biks?

They work very well when set up properly and well maintained. I still prefer a cable pull slide carb just due to simplicity.

A CV carb draws the slide up with vacuum and has a throttle plate like a car. If not set up correctly (like any carb), there's a lag in throttle response because you wait for the vacuum to pull the slide up, as opposed to a cable. I have a CV carb on my Qlink and it works very well.

I looked into this briefly a long time ago. You'll need to get a carb that mounts on rubber boots on intake and exit, plus change out the throttle cable to a slide type and then eliminate the second throttle cable.

I just searched and somewhere here, WAY back, someone posted a fix on the throttle lag. It had to do with pulling a small cover off the side of the carb and blocking a port with RTV. I did it and it helped the response tremendously. That and a little rejetting and it runs awesome.

The XF200 comes with a CV carb. He wants to switch it over.

I've never seen it but it can be done. To help you we need to know what you are looking for.

More power?
Ease of jet changes?
Eliminate the air box?

You can get all of the above with your existing carb. Be warned, however, CV carbs don't do well with pod filters without extensive trial and error with jetting. And you have to fabricate a support as the intake manifold is rubber as 2LZ pointed out.

David, I know you remember when trevort was doing all his mods and put a pod filter on his XF he was racing. He made a cool little "L" bracket (if I remember right) to support the rear of the carb and it worked out very well. BUT....since the stock Qlink airbox breathed so well, I think he switched back because it didn't add any numbers to his dyno tests.
I'll have to search this out............

Yep, I remember. I also remember others on here and MCM that tried to switch to pods and all went back. What really is nice about the CV carb on the XF and XP are jet changes. Loosen the front and rear manifold clamps, turn the carb, and take off the bowl. So much easier trying out jet sizes.

I bought the bike used, and it has a couple quirks, but mainly there is a tiny tear in the rubber piece that operates the slide. And to be honest, vacuum is not my favorite method of actuating anything. I picked up a mikuni VM28 for 85$ so when I get time, I plan to do the switch. Ill be sure to share the results.

Looking forward to what you come up with. If it all else fails, that Mikuni CV parts are readily available since it's run on many Japanese bikes.
Man....I just wish I could find a good used Q, even just for parts. They sold a bunch but like heck if I ever run across one on our local CL.
