Taller Gear / front sprocket for hwy mph .

My 2020 TBR7 sprockets we’re supposedly changed when I bougyit this past Dec 2022. It tops out about 56mph with me & Im 250lbs. The previous own claims to have swapped the original front sprocket out for a taller , higher speed setup for Hwy use. I’ll count tomorrow to be sure of what I have . But whats the options for a higher speed hey setup?

Pupwood 2021 TBR7 installed a 17 tooth front, forget whats on back. Me 180 lbs. 60 miles a hour and not reving it to hard, will go 65mph but its running pretty hard. Think back sprocket is a 39 tooth. Hope this helps Buzz

You will probably find that the TBR7 does not have room for a taller front gear that the 17 tooth. Rear gear is up to you and at that point top speed is mostly determined by rider weight.

This is where one learns the difference between horsepower and torque.

The 230cc CG engine does not make enough horsepower to pull a 200+ pound person much more than 55-60 mph. You wind and wind and wind and still never hit top RPM in top gear.

Small variations in rider weight start limiting the top speed at that point. A 150 pound rider might get to 65 while a 250 pound rider will never see 60 mph.

Exceptions may exist but I don't really believe most of the claims. That engine only has 16HP rated and your top RPM is limited by the engine design.

No. This is wrong. I am walking, talking, living proof that it is wrong.

As a person that, at one point weighed over 300lbs, and with a Hawk that just had an exhaust and sprockets, I went 68mph on the regular with 17/45 sprockets.

Physics lesson. Weight affects acceleration. Resistance affects top speed. Weight only has a small affect on rolling resistance. Wind resistance is 90% of the limitation with top speed.

I am running the stock 46 tooth rear with a 17 tooth front on my TBR7, and it runs great, and doesn't hold traffic up on 2 lane 55mph roads, and it doesn't mind going 65, but I am contemplating putting a 42 on it. I would go with a 44, but already have a 42. I was , until yesterday running a 50/17 on my Hawk, which has larger circumference on the rear wheel, and from what I have been told by knowledgeable members on this sight, is about like the 46/17 on the TBR7. I put a 46 on the Hawk yesterday, and along with the 17 front, it's surprising good. It really reduced the rpm at highway speed, but at a cost of some power. It was mainly just running out of steam quicker, but required no down shifting out on the 2 lane section of rt 33 ,east of Ripley, which does have some pretty big hills. I down shifted on one, and picked up speed in 4th, and topped the hill at close to the speed limit. I think it's a pretty good trade off.
