Thumbs Up Finally got the bike I wanted..

Got a 2009 klx 250 with 6k on it in good condition for $2500. The only thing I notice is it's getting cold here in Ny and sometimes it can be cold blooded and not start up. Any suggestions on what I could do or should I take it in to the shop and have them do something when they do the valve change . I love it so much more thank my Klr 650. So easy to pick up etc.

See your other thread I answered your question. Excellent choice, My KLX is an excellent bike and has been 100% capable and never a problem.

Doc, in this thread, I think he's saying that the bike is cold blooded. In the other thread, he was trying to keep his carcass warm.

In a carbureted world, I'd increase the slow jet size in cold weather. Is your bike carbureted, mjs91882?

I think the KLX is a notorious for cold starts and is a jetting issue.

Congratulations on acquiring the KLX250S; it's a great motorcycle. I wish you a speedy recovery, and a quick return home from the hospital.

Rats I missed that salient point. Sorry.

The 2009 and later KLX's are funny. Most start great right out of the box, mine did, but some are just too lean from the factory. I'm sure they all use the same parts so I'm not sure why some have problems and others don't.

In any event, a simple rejet fixes it.

Check out the KLX forums you'll get the info you need.

Mine didn't have the issue stock, and with a Moose jet kit and a FMF Q4 muffler it carburates excellently. A tad rich at over 5,000 feet but still OK up to over 9,000 feet.
