Help FastDoc pick an ATV!

Choice A:

A 200cc Lifanoid Beast type aircooled about $1,070 delivered.

Choice B:

250cc water cooled Loncin engine, about $1,350 delivered.

I just want to put-put on trails and hills in the area. Ride on dirt roads, plowed fields, some light hillclimbing, runs to the mailbox, maybe do donoughts if if snows again. No jumps, major sand dunes, or aggressive riding.

I'm leaning towards the 200 to save a little $ and have less to maintain. The 250 might last longer and have more power, but I don't know.

Opinions? Any other suggestions? Scanning CL for 3 weeks or so has turned up no good used choices at a reasonable price in my area.

Well i remember looking for an off road buggy years ago, and i see this company is still around, they have a beast looking model except it's a 250 and also comes with bigger tires than a beast and a better looking body than the beast. Not sure on this model but at least you can have a look at it.

As for your choices above, i personally like the 250 better, it says it has a PZ30 carb which should be a mikuni, which you'd have to buy anyways if that 200 runs anything like our beasts, i also like the swingarm design on that 250 over the 200's.

I like my beast so far but it has been alot of work to get it the way i wanted, so far i've put on a new Carb, CDI, Air Filter, Front and rear shocks and a better exhaust/muffler, i've also had to relocate the battery to make room for the new air filter. IMHO i wish i waited for the 2010 GIO 200cc, but as usual GIO is not an option for you.

I like the machine in your link, Wayne. 50cc more than the 200, larger wheels, $100 more delivered. How did you like the dealer? I wonder if it also has carb issues. I am able to, but not in the mnood to tinker. I want to ride!

It does seem to have much less ground clearance, and a pretty small gas tank though...

Not sure on the dealer, i never ended up buying anything from him, but it's been at least 6 years that they've been doing business on the same website which is pretty good compared to the rest of the dealers selling this stuff. You may want to ask around about anyone with experience with this dealer.

If it doesn't have the mikuni carb i do believe that GIO can ship that to you ( might want to check first ) and would be a good upgrade, and while your at it get the CDI box too, they go for pretty cheap on GIO.

With bigger tires it should have more ground clearance than the beast i have now.

Agreed. I bet they're not measuring in the same place. One is probably measured under the chassis, the other under the lowest part, likely the hub area.

Hey Doc,

I voted for the 200cc for the sole reason of air cooled and my personal belief you don't want to mess with water cooling in a chinese ATV.

I would say, the 200cc is slightly underpowered for me (I'm a large dude) so if you could find something that looked reasonably good within the budget which is more cc, go that route.

I can't comment on the quality of the dealer or the machine, other than they again look like TAOTAO units. All I know is a dealer up the road moves those, and he's been there a few years and while I've heard some rumblings about crappy machines, I hear that about Gio's too which I've been happy with.

I haven't for the record though, spent more than $400 on any of my machines to acquire them.

But it won't be as cheap if I have to get into replacing the carb and the CDI. That said, I could have the same issue with the other units, except maybe the 250 L/C that seems to already have a Mikuni carburetor.

True enough, but I'm pretty sure Gio can send you parts, and hopefully they'd be interchangeable.

It cost me about 30 for the carb and 10 for the CDI. This is delivered in Canadian funny money. They aren't break the bank upgrades and well worth it.

Don't get me wrong, the 200cc is fun and you'll enjoy it, and it does get up to speed. I just found before the upgrades it was working HARD with my heft on it!

I'm 5'11" and 175lbs and my 200 pulls me around just fine.
