Different Flavor Choke
I've been noticing that the configuration of my bike doesn't exactly match what is shown in the motorcycle manual that came with it. Some examples are the location of the battery and the engine. The battery in the manual is pictured under the seat. The reality is my battery is hanging in the wind towards the rear of the bike. The engine? The pictures in the manual don't look like what is actually on my bike.
Another thing that is different is the choke. The manual shows the push/pull choke being on the left side of the motor, near the fuel petcock. A rather typical setup, but I've seen chokes located on the handle bar, too. Nice. Yeah, I don't have either one of those. 8O Here's what I see: Anyone out there familiar with this setup and is it a choke? It has 3 positions and the uppermost setting starts the bike just fine, but maybe revs a little high... I do have a sticky throttle, though. I've set it to the next downward position while the bike is running and it kills the engine. |

That is the choke. That position should be full choke and the lever pointed down is no choke.

Thanks, Ranger. Sounds like I need to make some idle adjustments after I clean the carb.

I may have it reversed though. Just going from memory.
Same setup as the xr200 honda. Allen

You were right. I found the confirmation in the Thumper Talk forum where someone asked about the choke position on the XR200:
