Throttle Freeplay adjustment
I feel like I may be missing something. I can not get the freeplay tightened on my Hawk throttle. There is only one adjusting knob where the cable enters the throttle assembly and it appears to be only a single in/out affair (no locknut then adjuster like I'm used to).
Anyway, tightening and loosening that nut does nothing for my freeplay. Do I need to just live with it? |

Ok i have not seen how the hawk throttle works..
could be typing blind here.... After you losen the nut are you turning the threaded thing the nut is on.. It could be a lock nut for the adjuster...'the threaded thing the nut is on" version 2... the adjuster is not threaded into the throttle housing.. hold the threaded thing and turn the nut... thats how a lot of throttles work.. ..

I think the Hawk throttle cables are just a tad too short in the body/sleeve, because even with the adjuster turned almost all the way out there is still quite a bit of play in the throttle, but it's tolerable. It just doesn't allow for much adjustment if/when the cable stretches. Since these bikes lack an adjuster at the carb end, this is the only adjustment to be found.

Mine only has a single thumbwheel and is a single unit with the threaded post that goes into the grip housing. I've turned it out so far it's about to fall out and it's ok, but still too loose for my taste.
I think the cable was just cut a bit too long form the factory. Since there's no adjustment at the carb end, I'll just have to make my own to get what I'm after. Thanks everyone! |
