Cam selection

Does anyone have any experience with the different cam profiles?

I am thinking these, the off-road one as I don't need top end power.

I have had the 292 cam for several years. I was the first person to install any sort of performance cam in a Hawk. Heck, before that company even existed. I had to order mine directly from Brazil lol.

10500rpm is pushing it, in my opinion. The 292 cam doesn't add any lift, just a ton of duration, so it does spread out the top end of the power curve a decent amount. In practical terms it helps extend the usable power from around 7500 to 8500 to 9000. Without head work it will still be somewhat limited up top.

The 292 is fairly tame, with the only real side effect being a slight increase in idle speed to maintain stability (1600-1700rpm). I daily rode mine for a long time.

Combine the cam with at least a ported head. Just my 2 cents

That was my plan but I was thinking of going with the 270 as top end speed isn't my end goal with it.

I am sure it would suit your goals just fine. The 292 cam still builds a ton of mid range power like the other two, so don't go thinking it has no lower rpm powet, because it still does. The only real sacrifice is at the very bottom of the rpm range (2k) which nobody rides at anyway lol. 4000rpm and up, which is where I usually keep my engine anyway, it's a big improvement, and in my opinion, where these motors are.happiest anyway.

No matter what you pick, it will be better than the stock unit.

Is south America the most reliable place to get such cams?

I'd actually be interested in procuring a 289...

But being in Australia anything from the USA has major shipping fees...

These particular cams are.made by WGK in Brazil. You would likely be better served buying more directly like I did if at all possible. Buying from the distributor here would just add more cost. When I bought mine the shipping was as much as the camshaft.

Okay good to know as that opens up more options on where to get one then. Thanks for all the helpful info.
