Riding gear

What does everyone wear for gear? I had my normal helmet and gloves for my Hawk. I'm waiting for my Apollo deluxe to show up and want to get some more gear for riding. I only ride on the street so I'm looking for a summer jacket as an option for my amor jacket.

I wear this jacket, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. If you get it, order one or two sizes above your shirt size.

I have an arai helmet, taichi gloves and mesh jacket. I also have kevlar lined jeans with armor pockets. I only have the hip armor in as the knee armor is uncomfortable. Then boots. Again I wear my streetbike gear. I have alpine star boots, bell moto sneakers and a pair of sedici adventure boots for in-climate weather.

I do not always wear the jeans or boots, such as when I ride to work. But 99% of the time wear my jacket and gloves and 100% of the time my helmet.

Would love some leathers with the knee pucks so I can drag my knees without taking the flesh off my kneecaps.

I am like Sochin, I have a lot of gear with multiples of most things (gloves, etc).

Helmets. I have two at the moment, my Schuberth C3 Pro on one end of the spectrum with it's ECE rating (current model year no longer has it) as well as a Scorpion EXO R420, the most affordable SNELL approved helmet on the market at less than $200. So far it has actually been a rather impressive helmet for the price point. Fits rather well and is decently quiet and comfortable. I don't actually own an ADV/Dual Sport helmet lol.

The rest of my gear is more Touring and Sport oriented stuff, and on the more budget friendly end of the spectrum of good gear.

My current jacket is a Tourmaster Advanced with CE armor at the shoulders and Elbows, and I replaced the triple density foam back protector with a CE approved insert as well. Constructed of two types of ballistic polymer weaves. Jackets are very limited for me since I require a Tall sizing. That generally leaves me with maybe 4 or 5 Jackets to pick from total. The selection has been slowly improving though, which is nice.

For pants I wear a pair of overpants instead of dedicated riding pants, mainly for practicality when commuting. Currently using REV'IT brand Varenne pants that have CE armor at the hips and knees and are made of 600D polymer.

My favorite pair of gloves are also by REV'IT, a pair of Stellar 2 gloves.

Riding boots, my current go-to are Alpinestars SMX 3 for most on road riding.

I do want to expand my gear selection to include more off-road oriented stuff, but since I don't go very often right now it isn't the highest priority for me.

Your post was timed well with mine. I had a Scorpion r710 helmet. I think it’s similar to Dan’s suggestion of the r410, but it’s fiberglass. It’s a tad lighter than the r410. I’m probably going to buy an r410 for the time being. It’s SNELL certified and inexpensive. I was very happy with the fit and finish of the r710. I don’t recommend HJC. I’ve had them and they don’t compare to the comfort of the scorpion. My helmet took a blow to the face and scraped the front of it and the visor. I need a new helmet.

I also recommend a very good pair of riding gloves. Had I been wearing leather gloves with Kevlar, my hand would not have been injured. The road ate through my cheap glove like it was nothing. I’m lucky to have been warring them though. I only damage the top layer of skin. My hand is actually feeling better already. I can touch it without feeling too much pain. My rib is another story.

I also was wearing a great motorcycle jacket with padding on the shoulders and back. I didn’t roll, just slid. So, the bottom of the sleeves are a little torn. The jacket is from Speed and Strength. I got it from motorcycle closeoits. Very high quality jacket!

Next, buy actual biker jeans with need pads. If I had been wearing that, my knees would not have been scraped. My regular jeans did provide some protection, but the road are through the knee on my left side. My jeans were not torn on my right knee, but it still scraped the skin. Again, actual biker jeans would have saved me from scraped knees.

Good helmet, biker jacket, good quality gloves, and biker jeans are my recommendation...from recent experience.

The rider specific jeans are nice for sure. I would personally recommend something with hip protection of some kind if possible, but definitely knee armor at a minimum like Ski_Rush points out.

Three areas I suggest not cheaping out on are the gloves, helmets, and boots. These three areas are the most vulnerable and easily injured in a crash, and are often the first things to hit or get it something that can hurt them.

If you plan on doing more serious off road riding, then instead of a jacket I would suggest an actual body armor suit like the Leatt Adventure body protector. Instead of riding pants, knee protectors with shin guards and more off road oriented riding boots.

Those tend to forgo slide protection in favor of more impact protection. Some people will pair said armor with a mesh street jacket with the armor removed from the jacket to add in some slide protection when on the road.

I would say get the R710 again if your budget allows. it's only about 50 more bucks. That said, I really do like the R420. Good entry level SNELL helmet.

I have the same jacket. I love it so cuz its breathable and has the CE armor. I have the sedici Bluetooth dual sport helmet and I'm looking into some Fly mesh gloves. I sold my last helmet and gloves with my Hawk.
I'll check out some of the gear you guys suggested too. Thanks

I have a HJC and a Scorpion helmet, good quality but both are way too heavy on a long day. I'll get a true dual sport helmet someday lol.

Jacket wise I have a kevlar MotoGP Dorna that's fully armored and includes separate rain and winter liners. 6F was the coldest I rode in it and it was fine.

Boots I have a pair of water proof TCX track boot for street and a pair of Oneal 4 buckle motocross boots for trail. Winter temps couldn't penetrate either.

Gloves are a fully armored cruiser style gantlet length by Indie Ridge. Terrible below freezing!
