150cc chinese ATV doesn't run well

Hi!
So recently my chinese 150cc GY6 engine quad has been sounding rather bad. I put a new fuel filter and cleaned the air filter but nothing changed. It only starts up when I give it gas and will not run if I let go of the gas. Plus while running there's a gasoline smell coming from the vent tubes I think.

It started acting up after a longer ride I did than usual and next morning it didn't start anymore. It is quite old though.
Maybe the carb went bad? Looking for help with this thing.

I'd start by removing the carb and disassembling it, check the jets for obstruction, possibly a damaged float component or similar.

Until you know what's going on (or isn't) inside the carburetor, we're all just guessing.
