Make your own boat(Plans)

Building a rugged, good looking boat for under $200 provides much of the same satisfaction you get from owning a china bike so I thought I would share this, and possibly post the plans for this boat if anyone is interested as I once printed and saved a copy.

http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthre...e-style-dinghy

This link is for a popular diy wood boat design that was available on a Finnish designers website for free until recently. He called it the "Portuguese style Dinghy". It is an 8' dinghy that is made using 1 1/2 sheets 1/4" plywood. The designer had a website with over a dozen simple wood boat designs, but unfortunately his site seems to have gone down recently. His website was titled "Hannu's Boatyard". I built several boats using these plans, including an 11' skiff based on the Portuguese style dinghy. These are great semi flat bottom boats that can be sailed, motored, or rowed.

Here is an 11' I made using the plans from "Hannu's Boatyard". october 2011 096.jpg

Nice boat. I've built a few boats over my life time too. My grand father was a boat builder. Guess that's where I got it from.

Seriously I don't need any more encouragement as far as boats are concerned .I just waddled outside and took a picture of the rack of broken boats I have at home to fix and sell this spring .

Bruce that stack of busted canoes looks like fun to me. The website is back up for anyone interested in simple stitch and glue boat plans. I recommend printing out any plans you may be interested since this site could go away for good. It hasn't been updated since 2009 so who knows what will happen. Enjoy
