Hawk 250 bogs down and dies

I just bought a Hawk 250 and have put roughly 50 miles on it. It ran fine for the first two days i had ridden it but then it seemed to not be getting enough fuel, the bike bogs down and dies. I have fueled it up twice with premium gas and changed the oil once. Has anyone had similar problems and/orknow what's wrong and how to fix it?

Unhook the fuel line and see if gas flows out of the rubber hose coming from the tank. Is the choke lever in the correct position?

I would start by pulling the gas line off of the carb, and see if the gas runs out. Try it again with the gas cap open. If that is OK, I'd take off the float bowl and look for junk or water in the bowl. Then I'd take out the main jet and shine a light through it to make sure it isn't blocked. It has to be completly clean. Next, I would check the float valve by reconnecting the gas line, holding the float up (gently) with your finger, then turn the gas back on. Take your finger off of the underside of the float to see if the gas runs free. Then let us know what you find....ARH

Like Sir kayakalot said. Check that your choke is in the right position. If you are on your 2nd tank of gas already with only 50 miles the choke must be in the on position.

If that's also the case, I would say pull the plug and either replace it or clean it. That plug is most likely carbon fouled.

I would also recommended putting fresh oil in if it was indeed run with the choke engaged for 50 miles. That much fuel entering a fresh engine with unseated rings will most definitely cause fuel saturation in the oil.

Follow the suggestions that ARH posted up though. One hit or miss issue with the Hawks is with the venting gas caps not doing their job and causing a vacuum lock of the fuel in the tank.

Found the problem

Looks like the air filter was saturated with oil and was clogged up. Not sure how it happened because I haven't layed the bike down and didn't over fill the oil when I changed it. I'm picking up a new filter tomorrow and will keep an eye on it so it would take happen again.
Thanks for your help!

The trouble is it can happen again. This is caused by the crank case vent hose blowing oil up into the air box. Usually caused by too much oil in the crank case. Oil level should be no more than half way up the sight glass with the motor cycle standing straight up. A PCV valve in that oil line will reduce this, but won't stop it if you have too much oil in the engine. The PCV valve makes life easier in the engine by making the crank case run at less than atmospheric pressure. Reduces oil fogging in the engine, and also makes life easier on seals that may want to leak, like the gear lever shaft seal...ARH

I would drain the oil. You have an issue with fuel. Either the choke is on or the float is adjusted wrong.

Smell the oil does it have a gasoline odor?

If you have a saturated Air filter that had to happen due to to much oil.

So either you added to much oil or something else raised the oil level ie fuel
