Salmon Arm, B.C. Walsheen Lake Fly hills
Well we survived our 5 day camping, quadding adventure
6 hrs to get to the camping spot we had to climb up to around 1200 feet once we got to Salmon Arm once we got to the camp site we found that someone had left evidence of their camping trip. cleaned up and set up camp wife forgot the air pump for the air matress so had to improvise with the boys built in pump and the wifes snorkle off her atv. had some company wile we were there ground squirells aparently this one liked tim bits nice parking spot for the atv's i love it when punks get bored and carve things up for something to do... the wife and kid loved the water but it was too cold for me. a 180 of the lake the start of a great ride that should have been 2 hrs and turned into a 4 1/2 hr nightmare here we took a break at the intersection of 2nd. trail, mile high trail and Number 1 heh heh the riding was great the end of this part of the day was hell ....we took the wrong trail without realizing it and I ended up killing my clutch on a steep hill trying to get back to camp....in the end we had to abandon my atv and Kelly had to ride the boys atv and I had to double the boy on hers to get back to camp before dark.....we made it before dark and with the help of our house sitter posted on another web site for help....help arrived the next day with a local and his friend on their huge Yamaha's they went to the place where I left my 250 and towed it back to base camp for us. didn't try it out yet to see whats what but will soon onto the rest of the pics from our trip figured out the charging problem with the 110 ....the lights were draining the batt faster than the thing could charge one flashlight and off you go into the dark also his chain came off on another day so had a look and wow the nut for the swing arm was gone......vise grips tot he rescue and then noticed that the cover for the front sprocket was also missing...wtf? how do you loose 4 out of 5 bolts? temp fixed it with a nut so that he had a ground and the rest here is mis pics lunch from a pot no dishes Kenny doing some target shooting with my 30 yr old pellet rifle. kelly and kenny getting water to put out the fire for the night last day on the mountain driving back down the mountain the view was amazing this is the Okanogan lake where Ogo-pogo resides the city of Salmon Arm from 1100 feet pic of the valley south of Salmon Arm so all 3 atv's and all 3 ppl made it in and out and home wasn't a bad week of camping.

Despite the mechanical problems, I'm sure you had a great time! Thanks for sharing the great ride report, MidLife.

Great pics, beautiful family and beautiful country. It looks like you had the area all to yourselves! 8)
I can't stand creeps who litter a beautiful natural area and/or carve up a nice picnic table or whatever  . Good on you for cleaning up after the punks! Sounds like you had the usual Chinabike nuisance issues, nut and bolt rejection, but overall it seems they performed well and a good time was had by all.

what a dope I am  Shuswap Lake where Ta'Lana resides.
I am going to blame the high altitude, fresh air and lack of smog

I was going to say Shuswap Lake, but I didn't want to be rude. I'm near Lake Okanagan right now.
Looks like you had a great time, despite the mechanical trouble. As a tip, I double-nut all China swingarm bolts. Nylocs (even with Loctite) don't stay put.

I have had those failures before too. Thus a good reason to replace tires before they get to old age wise. I suspect that old age and lots of winter seasons too on that trailer.
Fortunately they usually stay round even though the tread is gone. I limped to the nearest tire shop on some of those. My trailers all have recent rubber. The older ones get circulated to spare status. |

Any tire can fail. I don't think that is a retread. It appears to be a bias ply tire and that the outer layer separated from the belts inside.
Usually tires separate from heat. Running to low on air or being overloaded. It is recommended not to run tires more than seven years old. Tires have date codes on them. I think the shinko I just got has 2311 on it. 23rd week of 2011. Easy to check. Espicially when you buy used tires like me. I roll cheap. |

I would buy two new tires and then keep your older but still good tire for a spare. It is a good idea to check the date code on new tires too.
I just picked up some used ones for my truck. 2008 date code. Still safe. Those trailer tires are expensive too. |
