Hawk 250 delivered

It came wrapped in cardboard and plastic. It was already assembled except for the mirrors. The battery was already charged. I put Rotella t4 in it. It fired right up and idled no problem. First try. I about fell over. It seems to run really well. I am exhausted from lack of sleep so I put it away for a couple of days but I am pretty happy with it so far. I am just amazed it fired right up and idled no problem. Perfectly.

thanks Jerry. I still find myself in awe of the fact that it fired right up and idled perfectly. someone must have done something on it. they said it was a refurbished fully assembled, so maybe the last owner got it running. it has 5 miles on it. my main issue is going to be getting my leg up over it. its tall and I am a fat dude. I almost fell yesterday trying to get on it. I reckon i better get some platform shoes, start stretching and lose some weight. hehehh

I am going do what you guys all suggest. Loctite everything i can. I need to read more about jetting and interpreting the spark plug. I got the grease and whatnot and everything, but I was just too tired last night to mess with it and weather is crappy for the next few days.

I was going to to get an EFI bike, but the price was right for this one and I really want to learn about carbs, so I figure this will work. It almost seems to me like these bikes are as much of a hobby as anything. Anyway, thanks again fellas.

also, I did notice a magic marker spot on the rear axle. i intend to pull and grease it all.

I have a different bike in a Templar but I was thrown a bit by how tall mine is. With the rear shock on as-shipped soft I felt like it was trying to catapult me when I got off. I hated to lose rear suspension travel but in all practicality I don't need it. So I drilled a hole to lower the rear shock mounting. That let the seat down a couple of inches and with firming up the rear shock setting made it a lot better. Still a bit tall for getting on and off but that's all I'm willing to do. I had to trim about an inch and a half off my kickstand too to match.

Nice looking bike. Congrats. But as was previously said, rejet that carb, it may start up and idle but it will be very lean. The motor will thank you for giving it more fuel. Check out Motor Cheez videos on you tube. He has a bunch on the Hawk. Shoot I'm still thinking about getting a Hawk. I have a KPX but I have a bunch of brand new goodies in the shed for a Hawk. LOL

it just dawned on me that the turn signals on my bike don't beep. which is good. has this been removed in the newer models? if not, then someone did it already.

Zapkin On the spark plug , should be a light tan color. Black plug to much gas, white spark plug not enough gas. Not enough gas is lean, and could blow engine. Think I'm running a 120 jet, and 2 brass washer under needle. Runs way better, good luck.
