Hawk wiring gauge size

I am in the process of wiring my digital speedo and need to connect my gear position plug to my cluster so I need to make a short harness. Just wondering if anyone knows if the hawk uses 16 or 18 gauge?

Not sure what stock wire size is. In the case of the gear position sensor it really doesn't matter. 16 is slightly stronger and you should have no problems fitting it in the Molex connectors. Most circuits on the bike are oversized for reliability rather then current carrying capacity. Most wires could be 24 gauge and still work fine but they could break if you crash so manufactures use larger wire primarily for that reason. Just make sure it's stranded wire not solid or it will break under vibration.
