Brrrr! Carb woes

Now that it’s into the 30’s here the bike needs a long warm up before you can use the throttle without killing it. I’m told I probably need to adjust the mix screw as they run better a little rich in winter. I know the idle adjustment screw and the every just slightly leaky bowl screw. What I can’t find on the carb or online is the mixing screw real or faux. I’m guessing it needs to be slotted in the head to be turned but can’t find it. Thanks for the help as always!

Should be underneath the carb just in front of the float bowl. May be covered with a press in plug.

Wow, just the problem I am having......and wonder should I remove the carb and, clean, blow, tune it........It's because of colder weather! Thanks
Idle mixture screw is to the front of the carb, can be seen from below the carb.

The stock carb will have a cap over it that you will have to remove. You will also find that you may need to up the main jet for the winter time. Colder temp will make it run a little leaner.

Ok, got down on my hands and knees. No caps or screw heads that I can find at all. Anyone have an online link/photo of it? Hmmm.

I found what may be it. A small bit of brass marked in red a lot like at the green arrow. I’m assuming to turn it clockwise for leaner and back off counter clockwise for richer?

Your red arrow points to it.

Ok, I found a pic of a Suzuki carb that had it in the same place so I was like ok yeah I bet that's it. Thanks!

Now, which direction and how far and what I'm going to use to turn it with, I'm hoping needle nose pliers will be enough to turn it.

Good luck finding a pilot jet which is your real problem with the PZ30 and cold weather.. Main jet isn't going to help with cold starts unless you're opening the needle with the choke open to compensate; these flood easy and sour oil on a unbalanced shaft will have you ordering a $500 engine in no time..

The PZ30 has a 40 pilot jet and is large enough. The idle mixture needs to be adjusted and the needle will need to be shimmed with washers due to the needle does not have grooves to raise it. I used the stock PZ30 carb even after I ported and decked the head and had no issues other than I needed something with a larger bore to complement the head work for top end.

If I remember correctly the storm uses a different pilot jet than the Hawk and can be changed.

I had the PZ30 with stock pilot, 110 main, and 1.5 turns out on the mix screw(what is in pictures) with .00258 on both valves, and I needed at least two turn overs with throttle 1/4 just to get it fired without flooding with choke all the way open.. Choke had no effect.

Once warm it'd start up at the press of the button all day.. Knockoff VM26 with the same main jet swapped and #20 pilot fires within three seconds on a 52F morning and choke all the way open(PZ30 would just flood here if you kept trying..).. Valves unchanged idle screw even further out..

I could be wrong though, but it's not like you can just take these to a dealership or local mechanic to verify findings..

Thanks everyone.

I’m wondering if that brass nipple protruding out even turns or am I going to have to bore it open. I have the same bike as ProjectNext, in his video he changed jets on this carb before he got that sweet pumper kit. Maybe he will see this and know how to adjust the mix and can clarify anything else about the carb.

As a side note I ran my valves down to 4 frim the 5 lash. I swear the ticking got louder! This is funny because the noise is why I went down a size. Ha! I, well
