vm26 and vm28 carb

I have the vm26 carb. I ordered a vm26 22.5 pilot jet. However, the size and shape of this new 22.5 is not the same as the stock one installed. In fact the new one doesn't even fit in the thread hole. Now, I see on Ebay for a VM28 of a 22.5 pilot jet that looks just like mine. I'm pretty sure I have the VM26. Yet, has anyone had similar issues?

The number (size) of your Mikuni carb is stamped on the top of the mounting flange. The numbers 26 or 28 will appear on that stamping. If you can read it, then you'll know for sure which one you got.

If the threads are different, I suppose it is possible they sent you Keihin pilot jets by mistake.
