not shifting into nuetral while running

mine wouldnt shift into nuetral like others have mentioned and i noticed on my first run that it wanted to creep forward at the red light. so i adjusted clutch cable and now it shifts with ease. maybe this will help someone else too.

Good thing you adjusted that clutch cable. If you don't fix this problem as soon as you notice it, you will overheat the clutch plates. Then they warp. Once they warp, the only way to fix the problem is a new set of clutch discs, both the lined plates and the steel ones. You should adjust the cable at the clutch throw out lever on the motor. Then go up to the handlebar and adjust the clutch for 1/8 th inch free play at the fulcrum. Start it again, and make sure the motorcycle doesn't creep when you put it in gear.

Tim, it is also a good idea to get a cable luber and lubricate the clutch cable. That helps quite a bit.

Good idea. And make sure the clutch and throttle cables have smooth and easy runs to where they are going. The smoother the cable runs the better they work.

FWIW, I had a whole lot of trouble finding neutral at first on my TT250 until I:

  • Changed the factory oil out
  • Put some miles on it to break it in
  • Adjusted the clutch cable
Now, no problems at all. YMMV.

Have fun. Ride safe.
