Thinking about going Tubliss with the Hawk.

Back in the day we'd put 2 bead locks on the rear tire of our 2 smokes and run them at 5 to 10lbs. The difference was amazing, lots more stability and traction, but even a heavy duty tube wouldn't last long. So I've been watching YouTube videos about the Tubliss system and for $200 I'm definitely interested. My concern is how much pressure would you run them on pavement? How would lower air pressure affect the handling and traction on the street? And I'm sure it would shorten tire life. But I haven't found any videos about using them on the road. Also would it be a waste of money to install one on the front? Enquiring minds want to know..

I haven't installed mine yet because they are not recommended for regular road use. Some guys have, and do, run them on the road though. They require you to be constantly on top of your pressures, especially the inner air bladder as the whole system is dependent on it. I am debating installing it still.

I'm very curious as well for the same reasons. We often ran the air pressure at 12 to 15 psi and the bikes had good traction off road but seemed to handle some short hard pack dirt very well.

Please put them on and see what you think . In the tubliss add it says to run between 0 and 10 psi , but would you be able to run 15 psi and be able to ride the bike to and from the trails ?

Well that's not very helpful lol. I just know running the recommended air pressure in the rear tire will render it about useless off road and even leave it squirrelly on gravel. I had a '88 YZ 80 that was missing the rear bead lock so I had to run almost 40lbs of pressure to keep it from ripping the valve stem off. I might as well had a street tire on the back so I remedied that real quick. I'm thinking maybe just install one Tubliss on the rear and air down for conditions expected. Also I live so far back in the sticks most of my riding will be on gravel/dirt roads.

I know there are guys than have run 30psi for long road stretches without issue, if that is what you are wondering. My plan is to get a second set of wheels to run the stock knobby tires with the tubliss setup in the near future

Actually that is very helpful . Sounds like you could have the best of both worlds if you carried an air pump on the bike. Even a small bicycle pump would work as a cycling friend of mine used to run 100psi on those skinny road tires they run nodays ( makes my bum hurt just thinking about that kind of pressure on a bicycle plus the bum floss seats they sit on ) PS megadan he is 6'5" and weighs 265lbs.

I actually want to lace up aluminum rims to a different set of hubs. I might just go through with it on the steelies though.

The trials guys all swear by Tubliss. Sadly there's no 17. Which is odd because the deep pocket ADV crowd would buy them too.

EV puts them through more punishment than our CB's suspension could ever handle.

Does anyone else think it's screwy that the Hawk doesn't have a bead lock on the rear tire? Been standard equipment on jap dirt bikes for as long as I can remember.

Ya ! No bead lock BUT it does come with a helmet lock? And a useless plastic moisture trap of a tool box. There I go again, time for happy thoughts

Rubbish.. we do 1000s of ks a year on tubebliss's...
very common for adv bikes here..
if they made a 17" my XT660 would have them in aswell
as my TTR..

And why are they not recommended for road use...
Tubebliss is just covering it's ass...
they do come from the land of the law suit...
Imagine some brain dead American coming off the dirt with
5 psi in his tyres then tosses the bike gets hurt...
next thing he is blaming everyone ealse for him being a dumb ass..
and lawyers have dollar signs in there eyes..

Why not just install a $5.00 standard bead lock ?they work just fine ,and they even match up with the idea that you bought a inexpensive Chinese bike .
